I have done a screencast in a previous class and found it
very interesting. I currently work with
our international program centers and sometimes it is just easier to do a
screencast to show center managers where they need to go on our website. One of our instructional designers created
quite a few screencasts for our new faculty in order to show them how to navigate
through Blackboard and their course shells.
We are in the process of setting up more screencast for our
international centers and for our domestic students as well. It is a great tool to use for giving directions
and actually showing users what they should or should not see. I think it is a much more powerful tool then
trying to explain something over the phone or in an email. I think the actual video could have gone into
a little more explanation on how and why to use a screencast and where you can
go to get the software, such as Jing.

Hi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteGlad to see that someone in our class has prior experience with screencasts, in case I have questions :) Did you use Jing in the screencasts that you have made, or another software program?

Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI was not familiar with screencasts prior to this class. I too felt that the video on Blackboard was lacking in depth for someone who has never experienced one. However, reading your blog post has offered some insight into how this tool can be used. I am thinking this might be a good way to demonstrate for my students how to use our online music resource, Quaver. This program is somewhat difficult for younger students to grasp without a live presentation. Do you have any completed examples? I'd love to take a look!
Below is the link for a current screencast of the PPT.

I used CamStudio for this screencast.
